PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Towson University women's basketball team outscored Drexel University 17-13 in the fourth quarter but it was not enough as the Dragons claimed a 58-48 win in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) opener for both squads.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Tigers opened the game on an 11-4 run as sophomore guard Sianni Martin connected on a lay-up with 3:47 to go in the stanza.
- A lay-up from sophomore forward Brittany Tarr gave the Tigers a 13-6 advantage with 3:11 to go in the quarter.
- Drexel scored nine of the final 11 points in the quarter and took a 16-15 edge after 10 minutes.
- The two teams traded baskets to start the second quarter. Senior guard Raven Bankston hit a lay-up with 5:57 on the clock to pull the Tigers to within two, 21-19.
- Drexel responded by scoring eight of the final 10 points in the quarter and took a 29-21 lead at the half.
- At the half, Drexel was shooting 32 percent from the field and was 10-for-12 from the foul line. Towson posted a 26.9 field goal percentage and was 6-for-8 from the charity stripe.
- Ana Ferariu led Drexel with 13 first half points while Tarr had six points and four rebounds for the Tigers.
- Drexel outscored the Tigers 16-10 in the third quarter and took a 45-31 lead with 10 minutes to go in the game.
- The Dragons scored 10 of the first 16 points in the fourth quarter and led 55-37 with 4:24 to play. Meghan Creighton had four points during that stretch.
- Towson scored seven straight points, which made it a 55-44 game with 2:14 showing on the clock.
- The two teams traded points over the final minute plus. Junior guard Shanea Butler's lay-up with 14 seconds left made the final score 58-48.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Drexel has now won 16 straight games versus the Tigers.
- Martin finished with 11 points and three rebounds while Bankston had 11 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals.
- Tarr tallied nine points and a team-high seven rebounds.
- Drexel shot 38 percent from the field for the game and made 14-of-20 shots from the foul line.
- Towson posted a 29.1 field goal percentage and connected on 13-of-22 shots from the charity stripe.
- Both teams recorded seven steals.
- Ferariu had 17 points to lead Drexel.
The Tigers are back in action when they travel to Northeastern for a 7 p.m. game on Friday, Jan. 6.
