Jocelyn Kuilan each had 13 kills as the Towson University volleyball team fell to Northeastern University 3-1 on Sunday afternoon in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play.
Kuilan's 11th kill of the match, which came in the third set, gave her 1,000 kills for her career. She became the 14th Tiger in program history to reach mark and is believed to be the fastest to reach the mark in program history, needing just 83 matches to reach the mark.
Otero recorded her first career triple-double, finishing with 13 kills, 24 assists and 11 digs. She is the first Tiger to reach that mark since
Kimberly Snider in 2005.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- With the first set tied at 9-9, Northeastern used a 4-0 run to take a 13-9 advantage. Amy Underdown had a pair of service aces during that stretch.
- A kill from Underdown pushed the Northeastern (11-6, 4-0 CAA) lead to 16-11 and forced the Tigers to call timeout.
- The two teams traded points before a kill from Athena Ardila gave the Huskies a 25-16 set win.
- The second set proved to be the closest of the match as the Tigers (16-2, 2-2 CAA) and Northeastern battled through 12 ties and six lead changes.
- Neither team was able to take a lead of more than three points in the stanza.
- Towson trailed 19-18 before back-to-back blocks, the first from Kuilan and junior Olamide Sonuga and the second from Sonuga and junior Carola Biver, gave Towson a 20-19 edge.
- The Tigers pushed that lead to 22-19 on kills from Sonuga and Kuilan.
- Northeastern scored four straight points and took a 23-22 advantage in the second set.
- Following a Towson timeout, a pair of kills from Kuilan sandwiched around a kill from Biver gave Towson a 25-23 set win and tied the match at 1-1.
- Towson jumped out to a 9-6 lead in the third set on a kill from sophomore Annie Ertz.
- A kill from Biver pushed the Tiger advantage to 13-11.
- Kuilan reached the 1,000 career kill mark with back-to-back terminations which gave the Black and Gold an 18-14 lead in the set.
- Northeastern scored six of the next eight points and tied the set at 20-20. Underdown had five kills during that stretch to lead the Huskies.
- A block from sophomore Silvia Grassini and Ertz allowed the home team to take a 23-22 lead.
- The two teams traded points before a kill from Underdown allowed the Huskies to take the third set 27-25 and Northeastern took a 2-1 lead in the match.
- Northeastern jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the fourth set but the Tigers battled back and took a 10-8 advantage on kills from Sonuga and Kuilan.
- Kills from Grassini and Otero allowed Towson to take a 16-12 lead.
- Otero's kill put the Tigers ahead 18-15, however that was the last point that Towson scored in the set. Northeastern scored the final 10 points of the stanza. The 25-18 set win gave the Huskies a 3-1 victory in the match.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Both teams were very active at the net as Northeastern registered 14 team blocks while the Tigers had 11.
- Northeastern hit .242 in the match while the Tigers posted a .194 hitting percentage.
- Otero finished with 13 kills, 24 assists and 11 digs for her first career triple-double. She is believed to be the first player in the CAA to reach the mark this season and prior to this weekend, only 17 players in the NCAA had recorded a triple-double this season.
- Kuilan finished with 13 kills and five digs. She is believed to be the fastest player in program history to reach 1,000 career kills and is the first to do so since Katy Buck (2010-12).
- Junior Peyton Moyles posted her second straight double-double with 17 assists and 10 digs.
- Six Tigers recorded at least one block in the match and that group was led by Sonuga who had seven.
- Redshirt junior Anna Holehouse led the defensive efforts with 15 digs.
- Underdown led Northeastern with a match-high 24 kills and 10 digs.
The Tigers are back in action as they hit the road and visit College of Charleston on Friday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m.
