MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – In the fifth overtime game of the season for the Towson University women's soccer team, the Tigers fell 2-1 in overtime on the road at the College of Charleston Sunday afternoon in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) action.
Towson (4-10-2, 1-4-0 CAA) tied the game near the end of the first half and neither team could find the goal in the next 45 minutes.
How It Happened
- Charleston (8-5-1 3-2-1 CAA) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute. Laura Ortega headed home her sixth goal of the season on a Leah Deutsch assist.
- The Tigers leveled the match 20 minutes later as senior captain Maddie Bové drilled her fifth goal of the year, with sophomore Justine Stoner on the back end.
- Bové's goal sent the match into a 1-1 tie at the break. Charleston narrowly out-shot the Tigers 8-6 in the opening 45 minutes, with Tiger keeper Taylor Sebolao making three first-half saves.
- Towson's defense held the Cougar to just one shot in the second half, and that attempt was not on goal. The Tigers managed three shots in the second half, putting two on target. Genevieve Henderson turned aside both second half shots on goal for the Tigers.
- The Tigers entered their fifth overtime game of the season and first since September 15 against Temple in a scoreless draw.
- In the 95th minute, Charleston's Alyssa Beck received a cross from near the corner flag as Mary Kate Bowers sent in the pass, providing the game-ending goal.
Behind the Numbers
- Both teams took 10 shots throughout the contest. Towson was paced by five total shots from Bové, four of which were on goal.
- Sebolao made three saves in net for the Tigers. Henderson stopped five Towson shots.
- Charleston was called for 13 fouls while Towson was whistled just three times.
