Stover Tosses Tigers to Senior Day Victory

TOWSON, Md. – Redshirt freshman quarterback Ryan Stover threw four touchdown passes to four different receivers in leading Towson University to a 29-10 victory over Rhode Island on Senior Day Saturday afternoon at Johnny Unitas® Stadium.

How It Happened
  • The Rams (3-8, 2-6 CAA) took advantage of short field to jump out to a 7-0 lead after a six-yard touchdown run from quarterback JaJuan Lawson.
  • The Tigers (5-6, 4-5 CAA) looked to be driving for the tying score, but a fumble near the goal line gave URI the ball.
  • The TU defense held and forced a punt.  The snap hit the up back and rolled out of the end zone for a safety.  It was the Tigers' first safety since recording one against New Hampshire on November 20, 2010.
  • Towson would seize momentum in the second quarter as they found the end zone for the first time on a beautiful pass from Stover to Sam Galahan on the post.  The failed conversion gave the Tigers the 8-7 lead.
  • URI regained the lead on a field goal, but Lyrics Klugh returned the kickoff 43 yards to set up the offense near midfield.
  • The offense needed only three plays to reach the end zone as Jabari Allen took the short screen pass and bullied his way into the endzone for a 21-yard touchdown with less than a minute to play in the first half.
  • The Tigers were forced to punt on their first possession of the second half, but came back to put the game away with touchdown drives on each of their next two possessions.
  • The defense helped to set up the touchdown as D'Sean Cummings put pressure on the quarterback and forced a bad throw that was intercepted by Robert Heyward.
  • Three-plays later, Stover rolled left and found a crossing Shane Leatherbury for the sliding catch and the 13-yard touchdown.
  • Towson closed the third quarter and opened the fourth with a 15-play drive that ended with Stover hitting a wide open Ellis Knudson in the middle of the endzone for the two-yard score.

Inside the Numbers
  • The Tigers scored points in all four quarters for the first time this season.

  • Ellis Knudson caught two passes for six yards.  He became the 22nd different player to catch a pass this season.
  • Shane Leatherbury led the receivers with six catches for 70 yards and a score.
  • Freshman Adrian Feliz-Platt celebrated his birthday by rushing for a game-high 54 yards on just eight carries.
