Tigers Open CAA Play By Hosting Northeastern Friday

Time for CAA Play: After a break for the holidays, the Towson University women's basketball team returns to action on Friday, Dec. 29. The Tigers open Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play by hosting Northeastern at 7 p.m. in SECU Arena. Links to live stats and the video feed can be found on the schedule page of TowsonTigers.com. Towson Sports Network's Ben Rosenbaum will be on air starting at 6:45 p.m. Fans can also follow the Tigers on Twitter (@Towson_WBB) for updates.

Series History: Towson welcomes Northeastern to SECU Arena to begin Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play. The Tigers and Northeastern will be meeting for the 35th time overall in a series that Towson leads 18-17. The Huskies have won three straight in the series including a 63-51 win last year in Towson. Half of the Towson wins in the series have come at home.

I'm Honored: Towson senior forward Mary Cuevas was named to the Las Vegas Holiday Hoops Classic All-Tournament Team. Cuevas averaged 16.5 points and eight rebounds per game while shooting 62.5 percent for the two games combined. She started the tournament with 11 points and seven rebounds in the win over Arkansas Pine Bluff. Cuevas closed out the action with 22 points and nine rebounds against Radford. She was an impressive 10-for-12 shooting the ball.

Clearing the Glass: Towson continues to be a dominant force when rebounding the basketball. The Tigers outrebounded both their opponents in Las Vegas and has now won the rebounding battle in each of the 11 games this season. Towson has grabbed 40 or more rebounds in nine games. The Tigers pulled down a season-high 48 rebounds against Loyola and matched that number in the win over Arkansas Pine Bluff. The Tigers enter play this week averaging 42.6 rebounds per game. Towson ranks third in the CAA with a +5.9 rebounding margin. Senior forward Mary Cuevas is pulling down 9.6 rebounds per game, which ranks second in the CAA.

Not on My Watch: Towson senior center Daijha Thomas continues to climb the career blocks list at Towson. Thomas picked up a season-high four blocks in the win over Arkansas Pine Bluff and added another rejection against Radford. The senior now has 13 blocks on the season and 73 for her career. Thomas moved into seventh place on the career blocked shots list at Towson. She needs seven more blocks to move into a tie for sixth on career list.

And So it Begins: Towson kicks off its 17th season in the CAA as it hosts Northeastern. The Tigers are 8-8 in CAA openers after falling at Drexel last year in the opener. Towson is 8-8 when opening CAA play at home after posting a 54-51 win over James Madison last year in SECU Arena. Towson is 1-0 when facing Northeastern in its CAA opener.

Welcome to the Block Party: Towson posted 11 blocks while limiting its opponents to just five rejections in the two games in Las Vegas. Senior center Daijha Thomas has five blocks while sophomore forward Nukiya Mayo and freshman forward Tess Borgosz contributed two rejections each. Towson now has 70 blocks on the season and has recorded seven or more blocks in a game six times this year. The Tigers enter play this week averaging 6.4 blocks per game. Towson ranks ninth in the nation for blocks per game and 14th for total blocks. Senior forward Mary Cuevas leads Towson with 23 blocks and ranks 39th nationally for blocks per game (2.09 per game). Ten Tigers have recorded at least one block through the first 11 games.

Up Next: The Tigers wrap up the opening weekend of CAA play by hosting College of Charleston on Sunday, Dec. 31 at noon.
