Series History: Towson welcomes the College of Charleston to SECU Arena for its second CAA contest. The Tigers lead the all-time series with the Cougars 7-3 despite the College of Charleston picking up a 59-54 win in the last meeting. Towson is a perfect 4-0 when facing the Cougars at home in the series.
Twenty-Twenty Vision: Towson senior forward
Mary Cuevas led the Tigers on Friday night as she tied her career-high with 23 points. Cuevas was 7-for-15 from the field and connected on her third career three-pointer. She also tied her career-high by going 8-for-11 from the foul line. For Cuevas it was her second straight game with 20 or more points and third of the season (23-Wagner, 20-Radford, 23-Northeastern).
I'll Take That: Towson grabbed a season-high 16 steals in Friday's game versus Northeastern. It was the most steals by a Tiger squad since they had 17 against UMBC last year. Seven Tigers recorded at least one steal against the Huskies and that group was led by sophomore forward
Nukiya Mayo who had a career-high four swipes. Towson has now recorded double digit steals in five games this season. The Tigers are now one of four teams in the CAA to have recorded 100 or more steals this season. Towson ranks fourth in the CAA while averaging 9.8 steals per game. Sophomore guard
Etalyia Vogt is third in the CAA while contributing 2.3 steals per game.
Seeing Double: Towson had a pair of players post double-double performances against Northeastern. Senior forward
Mary Cuevas had 23 points and 10 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season. Sophomore forward
Nukiya Mayo finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the year. It was the first time the Tigers had two players with a double-double in the same game since Cuevas and
Maia Lee did so against William & Mary last year in January.
Dishing Out the Helpers: Towson handed out 13 assists on 22 made baskets against Northeastern. The Tigers have recorded double-digit assists in five games this season. Sophomore guard
Etalyia Vogt matched her career-high with five assists to lead the Towson efforts against the Huskies. The Tigers are averaging 9.6 assists per game as four Tigers have recorded 10 or more assists this season. Vogt leads the Towson efforts with 30 helpers.
Up Next: The Tigers head out on the road to Virginia for a pair of games next weekend. Towson visits James Madison on Friday, Jan. 5 and William & Mary on Sunday, Jan. 7.
