Daria Edwards delivered a bases clearing double that scored three runs to help the Towson University softball team open its 2017 season with a 9-7 victory over Youngstown State in eight innings in the Kickin Chicken Classic Friday morning.
Edwards' clutch hit was the centerpiece of Towson's four-run eighth inning uprising that made the difference.

- Edwards and Holiday Cahill led Towson's 12-hit attack with three hits each.
- For Edwards, it was her second double of the game.
- Edwards also had four RBIs.
- Cahill slugged her 29th career home run leading off the top of the seventh inning to give Towson a 5-2 lead.

- Nicole Stockinger had a pair of hits for the Tigers.
- Towson found itself in extra innings because Youngstown State rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
