ELON, N.C. – Despite winning the match's opening doubles point, the Towson University women's tennis team fell to Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) foe Elon, 6-1, to open its spring season on Saturday.

How it Happened

• Towson won the top two doubles flights to secure the match's opening doubles point. The No. 1 duo of A.J. Gomer and Renate van Oorschodt earned a 6-2 win over Elon's Maria Paraja and Alex Koniaev. At the No. 2 flight, Lucy Williams and Yevgeniya Shusterman claimed a close 7-5 win over Olivia Lucas and Erica Braschi. Elon's lone doubles win came at the third flight as Suzanne Zenoni and Kristen Ward swept Sophie Lesage and Lucy Gloninger, 6-0.

• Nicole Shakhnazarova dropped a close 6-3, 6-4 match to Erica Braschi at the top singles flight.

• Renate van Oorschodt won the first set against Sofia Edo, 6-4, but Edo responded with a 6-3 win in the second set to force the third set tiebreaker. Edo won 1-0 in the third set to secure the win at the No. 6 flight.
