Six-Run Seventh Propels Tigers to 6-5 Victory

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – The Towson University baseball team scored six runs with two outs in the top of the seventh inning to rally for a 6-5 victory over CSUN Sunday afternoon in the series finale at Matador Field.  The victory completed a 3-1 weekend in California.

How It Happened
  • CSUN got the scoring going in the third inning after a leadoff hit by pitch came around to score on a sacrifice fly from Justin Toerner.
  • A leadoff bunt single in the fourth helped the Matadors extend the lead to 2-0, before Kevin Riley delivered an RBI double in the fifth to make it a 3-0 game.
  • The Tiger bats finally came alive in the seventh inning after Dirk Masters drew a two-out walk.  A.J. Gallo followed with a single to center before both runners scored on Colin Dyer's single through the left side and fielding error.
  • Richie Palacios was then intentionally walked and Richard Miller loaded the bases with a pinch-hit single through the left side.
  • Logan Burke gave the Tigers the lead with a two-run single to left and Trey Martinez hit the next pitch up the middle for a two-run single.
  • The Matadors came back in the home-half of the inning and loaded the bases with no outs.  A 6-4-3 double play allowed one run to score before an infield single plated the second run of the inning.
  • Matt Allen (1-0) picked up the victory out of the bullpen after giving up one run on one hit over one-plus inning.
  • Kyle Stricker (2) earned his second save of the weekend after giving up one run and striking out three over the final three innings.
  • Burke led the offense by going 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs and a run scored.
  • Cabrera and Dyer each added two hits.
