HOW IT HAPPENED
- Towson opened the scoring with a goal from sophomore attacker Carly Tellekamp at 27:35.
- That jump started a 3-0 run by Tigers to begin the game. The run was capped by a goal from freshman midfielder Shelby Stack at 23:43.
- Loyola (0-2) responded with a 3-0 run of its own and tied the game at 3-3 with 18:51 to go in the half. Katrina Geiger had a goal and an assist for the Greyhounds during that scoring stretch.
- Sophomore attacker Natalie Sulmonte tallied a free position goal at 16:25 that kick started what proved to be the game-changing run for the Tigers.
- Towson scored the final five goals of the first half and took an 8-3 lead at the break. Gillingham and Sulmonte each had two goals during that stretch while senior attacker Samantha Brookhart had a pair of assists.
- Tellekamp's second goal of the game opened the second half scoring and continued the Tigers' scoring spurt.
- Towson scored the first five goals of the second half and led 13-3 with 20:10 to play. Gillingham struck for a pair of goals during that stretch for the Tigers.
- Loyola scored a pair of goals to break up the Towson run as the Tigers led 13-5 with 12:56 to play.
- Towson responded with a pair of free position goals from Sulmonte and Brookhart and led 15-5 with 4:01 to play.
- The Greyhounds scored the final three goals of the game, including a pair of free position tallies from Sabrina Tabasso, but the Tigers claimed the 15-8 victory.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Tigers have now won back-to-back games against Loyola for the first time since the 1979-80 season.
- Towson dominated the draw control battle in the game, winning 17 of the 25 in the game. The Tigers won the first 10 draw controls of the game.
- Towson went 5-for-7 on free position chances in the game.
- Gillingham led Towson with a career-high five goals and five draw controls.
- Sulmonte added three goals and five draw controls.
- It was the second hat trick of the season for each of the Tigers.
- Junior defender Tianna Wallpher turned in a big defensive effort with four caused turnovers, two groundballs and a draw control.
- Towson recorded double-digit caused turnovers for the third straight game.
- Sophomore Angie Benson earned the start in goal and made three saves for the Tigers while freshman Kiley Keating made three saves in relief action.
- Kady Glynn made three saves in the loss for Loyola.
The Tigers return to action on Sunday, March 5 when they host No. 4/4 Florida at noon.
