Towson's Bats Come Alive To Earn DH Split At Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.Daria Edwards was the human version of the fire emoticon during the Towson University softball team's doubleheader split at the University of Virginia Wednesday evening.

The Tigers dropped the first game, 5-4, in eight innings and captured the second contest, 7-4, behind a relentless 16-hit assault.

Edwards wasn't a one-woman gang as she had three hits in each game of the twinbill. It just seemed that way. Edwards had plenty of help as Dylan Jarvis and Kendyl Scott had three hits each in the nightcap. Edwards, who was scorching hot, finished the doubleheader with six hits and a .667 batting average. She has five three-hit games this season to lead the Tigers.

Records
Towson           9-11

  • The Cavaliers pushed across the winning run without a hit. They took advantage of three Towson errors in the eighth inning to plate the decisive run.
  • Dejter's dominance in the circle allowed the Tigers to chip away at their three-run deficit.
  • The Tigers scored in the fifth inning on Holiday Cahill's RBI groundout that scored Wilson.
  • Edwards delivered her third hit of the game to score Wilson from first base. That sliced Virginia's lead to 4-3.
  • Stracher's two-out RBI single scored Edwards with the tying run. On the same play, the Tigers had the potential go-ahead run thrown out at home plate.

How It Happened Game 2

  • She dug deep when Virginia opened the bottom of the sixth inning with three consecutive hits and scored to slice Towson's advantage to 5-4.
