Towson Opens CAA Play With Explosive Win Over Delaware

NEWARK, Del. – The Towson University softball team shrugged off the inconvenience of an early two-run deficit to swoosh past Delaware, 12-3, in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) opener for both squads Friday afternoon.
 
In flexing its offensive muscles, Towson also terminated Delaware's six-game winning streak.

How It Happened
  • Towson's terrific outburst included a pair of explosive five-run innings.
  • Towson's 10-hit barrage featured four doubles.
  • Everybody who started for the Tigers had at least one hit.
  • Holiday Cahill had two hits each to lead Towson's offense.
  • Cahill and Kendyl Scott each doubled during the game.
  • Caroline Reid had the big hit in the game for Towson during its five-run second inning.
  • With Towson trailing 2-0 courtesy of an Anna Steinmetz home run in the bottom of the first inning, Reid delivered a bases-clearing double that gave Towson a 3-2 lead it wouldn't relinquish.
  • A few batters later, Madison Wilson expanded Towson's lead to 5-2 with a two-run double that scored Scott and Reid.
  • Nicole Stockinger and Dylan Jarvis added RBI singles in the third inning to give Towson a 7-2 lead.
  • Then with a few mighty swings, Towson added plenty of insurance by closing the contest with five runs in the seventh inning.
  • RBI hits from Scott, Stracher and Cahill were the centerpieces of the seventh inning in which the Tigers batted around.
  • Scott, Cahill and Reid scored two runs each for the Tigers.
  • Megan Dejter tossed her 41st career complete game.
  • In addition to striking out four batters, Dejter finished with a flourish by retiring Delaware in order in the bottom of the seventh inning.

  • This was the 10th time this season Towson has had double-digit hits in the same game.
  • Towson reached double digits in runs scored for the third time this season.
  • Towson has won 48 consecutive games when scoring at least seven runs.
  • This is the second consecutive year Towson has won its CAA opener.
  • This was the first time in 24 games against Delaware, Towson scored double digit runs.

  • Scott had her team leading eighth multi-hit game of the season.
  • Miko extended her hitting streak to seven with a seventh-inning hit.

  • Cahill had her seventh multi-hit game. She has 170 for her career.
  • In addition to her two hits, Cahill also walked twice.
  • The Tigers hit .417 (5-for-12) with two outs against the Blue Hens.
  • With 41 career complete games, Dejter is 10th all-time in program history.
  • Dejter is also tied with Mandy Albrecht and Jen Weaver with 27 career victories.
  • The Tigers have scored 23 runs in the seventh inning, the most Towson has scored in any frame this season.
