TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University women's tennis team dropped a close 4-3 match to Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) rival UNCW on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers fall to 8-7 (1-2 CAA) while the Seahawks are now 7-6 (1-2 CAA).
 
How it Happened

• UNCW swept doubles play to clinch the match's opening doubles point. Sabrina Barisano and Madara Straume earned a 6-2 win over A.J. Gomer and Renate van Oorschodt at No. 1 doubles. The duo of Alix Theodossiou and Annika Sillanpaa captured the doubles point with a 6-2 victory over Lucy Gloninger and Lucy Williams in the second doubles flight. Xandra Fougner and Laura Gomez defeated Barbora Vasilkova and Yevgeniya Shusterman 6-2 at No. 3 doubles.
• Nicole Shakhnazarova opened singles play with a top flight win against Madara Straume, 6-3, 6-1.
• At No. 2 singles, Annika Sillanpaa bested A.J. Gomer 6-2, 6-3.
• Lucy Williams earned a tough third set comeback win over Alix Theodossiou 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 in the third singles flight.
• At No. 4 singles, Xandra Fougner posted a 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 comeback win over Renate van Oorschodt. That singles win would prove to be the match's deciding point.
• Lucy Gloninger posted a hard fought third set win against Sabrina Barisano, 7-6(7-5), 6-7(3-7), 6-4.
• Celeste Matute defeated Yevgeniya Shusterman 6-4, 6-2 at No. 6 singles.
