TOWSON, Md. – With one mighty swing at 3:13 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time,
Holiday Cahill ended a drought and simultaneously etched her name into the Towson University softball record book.
Cahill became Towson's all-time home run leader after launching her 32nd career blast (and fourth of the season) with one out in the bottom of the fifth inning against Norfolk State. Once, she made contact, Cahill knew she had finally passed Aimee Rosa, who played from 2005-08.
Cahill's blast that sailed over the centerfield fence was the centerpiece of a pair of much-needed 8-0 victories over visiting Norfolk State at the Tiger Softball Stadium Tuesday afternoon. She was one of four Tigers who homered over the two games.
"It's a pretty cool feeling," Cahill said when asked what setting the all-time record means to her. "Coming into college, I didn't see myself hitting the most homers in Towson history so it's awesome. My sophomore year, I set the single-season home run record and Shelby (Stracher) broke it last year. This was something cool to accomplish from hard work and dedication. I think its super cool to accomplish those things in four years."

As Cahill glided around the bases with a wide smile, she was greeted at home plate by her enthusiastic teammates. Once in the dugout, Cahill received a hug from each of her teammates. The happiness was for a variety of reasons for Cahill, who hadn't homered since Feb. 24 against Hampton. She admitted the record and her next home run had been weighing heavily on her mind for a few weeks.
"I've talked about (the home run record) with a lot of people," Cahill said. "I want to say that I didn't think about it that often. There's been kind of a lot of things going through my mind with my career coming to a close. You want to go out on a good note. It's been weighing more and more. When I hit that ball, I knew it was out. It was like a big weight was lifted off my shoulder. Not that I was pressing for it but it was good to get it over with and hopefully that will open things up for me."
For Cahill, it was another impossibly brilliant moment in splendid career. She already owns the single-game home run (three) and RBI (seven) records. Cahill set them last season against Delaware.
