CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Despite a singles win by junior Renate van Oorschodt, the Towson University women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision at No. 43 Virginia on Sunday afternoon. The match between the Tigers and Cavaliers took place at the Boar's Head Sports Club.
 
How it Happened

• Virginia opened the match by sweeping the three doubles matches. At No. 2 doubles, Rosie Johanson and Meghan Kelley defeated Yevgeniya Shusterman and Lucy Williams, 6-0. The No. 33 duo of Chloe Gullickson and Cassie Mercer earned a 6-2 win over A.J. Gomer and Renate van Oorschodt at the top doubles flight. The final doubles match was left unfinished with Hunter Blesser and Camille Favero ahead 4-2 against Sophie Lesage and Barbora Vasilkova.
• Singles action opened with No. 118 Cassie Mercer defeating Lucy Williams, 6-4, 6-0 in the second flight.
• Virginia pulled ahead 3-0 in the match with a 6-0, 6-2 win by Chloe Gullickson over Barbora Vasilkova and No. 4 singles.
• The Cavaliers clinched the match victory as Meghan Kelley posted a 6-0, 6-2 win against A.J. Gomer in the third flight.
• Towson's lone point came in the fifth flight as Renate van Oorschodt bested Teodora Radosavljevic. van Oorschodt won the first set 6-1 and was ahead 3-2 when the match was retired.
• The top singles flight was a hard-fought battle as No. 49 Rosie Johanson held on for a third set win against Nicole Shakhnazarova. Johanson won the first set, 7-6 (7-4), before Shakhnazarova rebounded in the second set, 7-6 (8-6). In the third set, Johanson earned a 1-0 (10-3) win for the match victory.

Towson finished the season with a 13-12 overall record.
