Bats Come Alive Late in 7-1 Victory

TOWSON, Md. – Towson University starter Michael Adams kept the Tigers in the game through the first six innings, and the offense came alive with seven runs over the final three innings for a 7-1 victory over William & Mary Saturday afternoon at Schuerholz Park.

How it Happened
  • Adams battled through the first three innings to keep WM off the scoreboard.  He ran into trouble in the second inning, but was able to get out of it with a double play.
  • The Tribe (24-21, 8-6 CAA) were able to get on the board in the fourth as a hit batter and a base hit helped put runners at the corners with one out.  Kyle Wrighte's groundball was misplayed in the infield, allowing a run to score.
  • That would be all that Adams would surrender.  He used his second double play grounder of the game to face the minimum in the fifth before retiring the side in order in the sixth.
  • The Tigers (16-24, 4-10 CAA) got the offense going in the home-half of the sixth as Colin Gimblet drew a leadoff walk and went to second on a groundout.  Billy Lennox then plated Gimblet with a single through the left side past a diving third baseman.
  • Adams would come back out to start the seventh, but was removed after allowing a leadoff single.  He finished the day by allowing the one run on just four hits and five strikeouts over six innings.
  • Dean Stramara came out of the bullpen and immediately started a 1-6-3 double play on a bunt attempt.
  • The bottom of the seventh saw Towson takes its lead of the game.  Trey Martinez started the rally with a one out base on balls.  After a flyout, Richie Palacios lined a triple into the gap in right center to score Martinez from first.
  • Walks to Gimblet and Richard Miller loaded the bases for Lennox to drive in two more runs with a single up the middle.
  • The eighth inning was another good one for the Tigers offense as Martinez and Grunberg singled ahead of a Gimblet RBI single through the left side.  Miller then followed with a triple to right center to score two more runs.
  • That would be more than enough offense for Stramara (3-4) who allowed just one hit and fanned four in his three innings of work to pick up the win.
  • Charlie Fletcher (2-1) took the loss after giving up three runs on one hits and two walks in two-thirds of an inning.
  • Lennox paced the offense by going 3-for-5 with three RBIs.  Grunber and Martinez each added two hits.
