Tigers Swing Way to 10-2 Victory Over Hofstra

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Towson University baseball team continued their offensive onslot Friday afternoon as the Tigers pounded out a season-high 19 hits in defeating Hofstra, 10-2, in the first game of a three-game series.

How it Happened
  • The Tigers, which had not scored double digits all season prior to this week, have now scored at least 10 runs in each of the last three games.
  • It marked the first time the Tigers have scored double digits in three-straight games since March 15-17 when Towson scored over 10 runs in a three-game sweep over Hofstra.
  • Towson wasted little time in getting on the board as Richard Miller delivered a two-run home run to right center in the first inning.
  • The home run was the seventh of the week for the Tigers.  They entered the week with just seven home runs on the season.
  • After the Pride scored a run in the third, Colin Dyer helped to get the run back in the fourth with a one-out base hit.  After moving to third on a Trey Martinez single, Mark Grunberg singled through the right side to score Dyer.
  • The Tigers increased their lead to 4-2 in the fifth inning as Miller singled to left and came around to score on a Cuinn Mullins single to right center.
  • Towson broke the game wide open in the sixth inning as they strung together eight-straight hits to push across six runs in the frame.
  • Colin Gimblet, Billy Lennox, Dyer and Trey Martinez each had RBI singles in the inning, while Mullins plated two runs with a single to center field.
  • That would be more than enough for Tiger starter Dean Stramara (2-3).  The right hander allowed just two runs on six hits and six strikeouts over a career-high eight innings.
  • Alex Cuas struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning to close out the game.
  • Every Tiger hitter had at least one hit, with eight of the nine hitters collected at least two hits.
  • Miller led the way by going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored.
  • Lennox added three hits and scored a run.
  • The 19 hits are the most for the Tigers since they collected 23 hits against William & Mary on May 24, 2013 in the CAA Tournament.
