Kaitlyn Montalbano combined for nine goals and five assists to lead the No. 14/16 Towson University women's lacrosse team to a 14-11 win over William & Mary on Friday night in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The two teams traded goals early and found themselves tied at 3-3 with 17:37 to play in the period. Montalbano had a pair of early goals for the Tigers with Brookhart picking up the assist on both of those tallies.
- Back-to-back goals gave the home team a 5-3 advantage with 15:51 showing on the clock. Brookhart found the back of the net on a pass from senior midfielder Michaela Duranti. Just 1:02 later, sophomore attacker Carly Tellekamp tallied her second of the day off a pass from Brookhart.
- William & Mary (3-9, 0-1 CAA) made it a one goal game, 5-4 with an unassisted tally at 10:58.
- Towson (8-4, 1-1 CAA) closed the first half on a 3-0 run and took an 8-4 lead at the break. Montalbano sandwiched her third and fourth goals of the game around a tally from junior midfielder Emily Gillingham.
- The Tribe scored the first goal of the second half as McKinley Wade converted a free position shot for a goal at 27:01.
- Towson responded with a pair of goals, from Montalbano and redshirt senior attacker Alyssa Ferro, which made it a 10-5 game with 22:55 to play.
- William & Mary got a free position goal from Alexandria Specht at 22:26.
- The Tigers used a 3-0 run to extend their lead to 13-6 with 12:43 to play. Brookhart scored her second of the day before Montalbano scored her sixth of the contest. The third goal in that run came off the stick of junior attacker Jenna Kerr.
- William & Mary scored four of the final five goals in the game but it was not enough as the Tigers claimed the 14-11 victory. Eloise Gagnon had a pair of goals during that stretch for the Tribe.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Tigers extended their win streak against the Tribe to nine straight games.
- William & Mary's head coach Hillary Fratzke played for the Tigers (2006-10) and still ranks as the Tigers' career leader in ground balls, draw controls and caused turnovers.
- The Tigers outshot William & Mary 33-25 but the Tribe held a 15-11 edge in draw controls.
- Montalbano led the Tigers with a career-high six goals and one assist for seven points. She also added three ground balls. It was Montalbano's second hat trick of the season and 11th of her career.
- It marked the second time this season a Tiger player has recorded six goals in a game (Tellekamp – at UMBC).
- Brookhart had three goals and four assists for seven points. It was her first hat trick of the season. Brookhart's four assists gives her 31 for the season. She has recorded multiple assists in a game nine times this season.
- Sophomore attacker Natalie Sulmonte had three assists and six draw controls in the game.
- Lindsey Jenks led William & Mary with four goals.
Towson is back in action on Sunday, April 9 when it hosts No. 19 Elon at noon. That game will be broadcast on Lacrosse Sports Network as the CAA Game of the Week contest. The Phoenix fell at James Madison, 14-5 on Friday night.
