TOWSON, Md. – Four players recorded a hat trick to lead the No. 14/16 Towson University women's lacrosse team to a dominating 19-7 victory over No. 19/RV Elon University on Sunday afternoon in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play.
In addition to the hat tricks, senior attacker
Samantha Brookhart tied the school and CAA single-game assists mark with six helpers.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Elon scored the first goal of the game but the Tigers responded with three straight tallies and took the two-goal advantage, 3-1 with 21:27 to go in the half.
- Junior midfielder Kaitlyn Montalbano scored a pair of early goals for the Tigers.
- The Phoenix (8-5, 0-2 CAA) used back-to-back goals from Kelsey Dupere to tie the game at 3-3 with 17:02 showing on the clock.
- Towson (9-4, 2-1 CAA) struck for three straight goals and took a 6-3 lead with 11:39 to go in the stanza. That run was highlighted by free position goals from junior midfielder Emily Gillingham and senior midfielder Michaela Duranti.
- Elon scored two of the next three goals and pulled to within two, 7-5 with 2:07 left on the clock.
- Free position goals from sophomore attackers Natalie Sulmonte and Carly Tellekamp sent the Tigers into the half with a 9-5 lead.
- Towson extended that scoring run into the second half, tallying the first three goals of the period as the home team took a 12-5 lead with 26:59 left in the game.
- Montalbano scored the first two goals of the second half and posted her second straight hat trick.
- A free position goal from Elon's Jacie Cooper at 26:08 briefly halted the Towson attack.
- The Tigers responded with a 7-0 run and led 19-6 with 10:42 to play. Tellekamp and Sulmonte each scored twice during that run to complete their hat tricks. Brookhart had three assists during that stretch.
- Elon scored the final goal of the game as Melissa Birdsell found the back of the net at 4:42.
- Towson claimed the 19-7 victory, for its second straight win and fourth straight against Elon.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Tigers outshot the Phoenix 31-24 but Elon held a 17-11 advantage in draw controls.
- Sophomore Angie Benson started the game in goal for the Tigers and made four saves before giving way to freshman Kiley Keating who made five saves in relief work. Rachel Ramirez made three saves in the loss.
- Towson was extremely effective from the eight-meter arc in the game. The Tigers went 9-for-12 on free position shots in the game. It was the most free position goals scored by a Tiger squad under head coach Sonia LaMonica.
- Brookhart's six assists tied her CAA record set earlier this season against Stetson and tied the school record that has been done five times now.
- Brookhart's 37 assists this season are tied for third on the single-season list at Towson. Her six helpers raised her career total to 79 assists which is tied for third with Becky Trumbo (2003-06).
- Montalbano led Towson with five goals and one assist for six points. She also added two ground balls for the Tigers. Montalbano finished the weekend with 11 goals and two assists for 13 points in a pair of Tiger victories.
- Sulmonte had four goals and one assist while adding a game-high six draw controls. Sulmonte moved into a tie for fifth on the single-season draw controls list at Towson as she now has 56.
- Tellekamp had four goals while Gillingham added three goals.
- Freshman defender Sami Chenoweth led the Tiger defensive efforts with three caused turnovers and two ground balls.
- Birdsell and Dupere led Elon with two goals each.
Towson is back in action on Sunday, April 16 when it heads to Hofstra for a 1 p.m. game.
