Tigers Stumble in Series Finale

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Towson University centerfielder Mark Grunberg collected three hits and drove in three runs, but it was not enough as the Tigers fell, 11-5, to Hofstra Sunday afternoon.  The Tigers won the series by winning each of the first two games.

How it Happened
  • Towson got on the board in the first inning after Richie Palacios singled and came around to score on a Colin Gimblet sacrifice fly.
  • The Pride answered back in the home-half of the inning with a two-run home run from Vito Friscia and an RBI groundout from David Leiderman.
  • The Tigers tied the game in the second as Logan Burke drew a leadoff walk and scored on a Trey Martinez two-out RBI double to right center.  Grunberg followed with an RBI single to score Martinez.
  • Hofstra took the lead for good in the bottom of the second on an RBI groundout from Steven Foster.  The Pride added two more runs in the fifth on a Friscia RBI double and a run-scoring single from Brad Witowski.
  • The Tigers got back into the scoring column in the sixth inning after Burke and Richard Miller both singled and scored on Grunberg's two-run double to right center.
  • The Pride added a run in the sixth before putting the game away with four runs in the seventh inning.
  • The top of the Tigers lineup produced five of the team's nine hits as Grunberg went 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs and Palacios went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
  • Michael Adams (2-3) took the loss after giving up seven runs on 10 hits over 5.2 innings.
