Miller Leads Tigers at Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Towson University third baseman Richard Miller went 4-for-5 with a double, triple and three runs scored in the Tigers 11-6 loss Tuesday afternoon.

How it Happened
  • Miller, the reigning CAA Player of the Week, picked up right where he left off last week by leading off the second with a double to left field.  After moving to third on a Billy Lennox single to center, Miller was able to score on a fielder's choice.
  • Navy tied the game with an unearned run in the fourth inning before the combination of Miller and Lennox came through again in the sixth.
  • Miller started the frame with a triple to left field and scored on a Lennox sacrifice fly to left.
  • The bottom of the sixth inning proved to be the difference as the Midshipmen as they collected four two-out hits that pushed across six runs to take a 7-2 advantage.  Logan Knowles delivered the big hit in the inning with a bases-clearing double.
  • The Tigers came right back in the seventh with four runs of their own to pull within 7-6.  Mark Grunberg started the two-out rally with a walk and Richie Palacios followed with an infield single.
  • A.J. Gallo came off the bench to deliver a pinch-hit RBI single to center, and Miller followed with a run-scoring single to left center.
  • Lennox walked to load the bases and Logan Burke and Jay Sanford drew bases loaded walks.
  • Navy pushed the lead back to five runs with a four-run bottom of the eighth inning.
  • Miller was not the only Tiger to have a multi-hit game as Palacios went 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored.
  • Bo Plagge (0-1) took the loss out of the bullpen after allowing nine runs, eight earned, on seven hits over two innings.
  • David Marriggi turned in his second-straight strong Tuesday start as he gave up one unearned run on just two hits and five strikeouts over five innings.
  • Colin Brady (3-0) picked up the victory for Navy after giving up three runs on two hits over 2.1 innings.
