TOWSON, Md. – Towson University freshman
Andrew Cassard delivered a walk-off double to center field in the bottom of the 10
th inning to give the Tigers a 7-6 victory over Delaware State Wednesday afternoon at Schuerholz Park.
How it Happened
- The 10th inning rally started with Colin Gimblet delivering a single into the right-field corner. After Colin Dyer drew a walk, Cassard hit the ball over the head of the center fielder for the game-winning hit.
- The double was the fourth of the game for Cassard. He is now the fourth Tiger to collect four doubles in a game, joining Liam Healy (1998), Casey Stidham (2001) and Mike Costello (2003).
- The Tigers (13-17) jumped out to the early first inning lead after Richie Palacios singled and came around to score on a Richard Miller single to right center.
- A.J. Gallo followed with a double to right center to score Billy Lennox.
- The lead grew to 5-0 in the fifth inning as Miller cleared the bases with a double to right center.
- The Hornets (9-18) tied the game in the seventh inning on three hits and an error. A leadoff walk in the inning came in to score on a Darnell Maisonet single and Devin Beverly tied the game with a two-run double down the third-base line.
- Towson regained the lead in the home-half of the inning as Palacios drew a one-out walk. With two outs, Palacios was in motion wen Miller singled through the right side. When the ball was misplayed in the right field, Palacios was able to score.
- A leadoff walk again hurt the Tigers in the eighth as a two-out single from Jared Gillis tied the game.
- Kyle Stricker got the start on the mound and retired all nine batters he faced in his predetermined three innings of work.
- Matt Allen (2-1) got the win in relief, allowing just one hit over 2.1 innings.
- Travis Dill (1-5) took the loss after surrendering two runs, one earned, on five hits over 3.1 innings.
- Cassard finished his career day 4-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored.
- Miller added three hits and drove in four runs, while Palacios collected a pair of hits and scored three times.
