Tigers Drop Doubleheader to Delaware

NEWARK, Del. - Freshman Bo Plagge collected four hits, including a double and a home run, as Towson University dropped a pair of games at Delaware Friday afternoon.  The Tigers dropped the first game 7-5, before falling 11-1 in the second game.

Game 1
  • The Blue Hens got on the board in the first inning after a bloop down the left field line fell in and put runners on the corners with one out.  Jeremy Ake followed with a double just inside the bag at third to plate a run.
  • UD added to the lead in the second on a RBI single off the bat of Kevin Mohollen.
  • The Tigers got a run back in the third as Bo Plagge reached on a wild pitch and went to third on a Trey Martinez double just inside the third-base bag.  Mark Grunberg drove in the runner with a groundout to the right side.
  • Towson tied the game in the fifth as A.J. Gallo drew a leadoff walk.  He took off for second and was able to score as Plagge ripped a double into the corner in left field.
  • UD regained the lead in the sixth after a pair of walks helped load the bases.  James Meeker blooped a single into shallow left center to score two runs and Mohollen grounded out to score the third run of the inning.
  • The Blue Hens extended the lead with a pair of solo home runs from Calvin Scott and Nick Patten in the seventh.
  • The Tigers mounted a two-out rally in the ninth and nearly took the lead.  Gallo started the rally with a single to center and was followed by a single up the middle from Plagge and a single to right from Colin Dyer.
  • Martinez drove in two runs with a single to right field before Grunberg plated another run with a single into the hole at short.
  • Richie Palacios nearly gave the Tigers the lead, but his fly ball was caught against the wall in right center to end the game.
  • Kevin Ross (1-6) took the loss after allowing seven runs over 6.2 innings.  He allowed 12 hits and struck out eight.
  • Brandy Vogtsberger came out of the bullpen and retired all four hitters he faced.
  • Nick Spadafino (5-3) allowed two runs on two hits over six innings to pick up the victory.
  • Colman Vila (1) earned the save after giving up three runs on six hits over three innings.
  • The bottom four hitters in the Tiger lineup combined for seven of the team's eight hits.  Gallo, Plagge and Martinez each had a pair of hits.

Game 2
  • The Blue Hens wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard as Calvin Scott blooped a RBI single to center and Jeremy Ake drove in a run with a double to right center in the first.
  • The Tigers got a run back in the fourth on a solo blast to left off the bat of Bo Plagge.
  • UD answered back in the home half of the inning with four runs, the big blow being a three-run homer from Ake.
  • The lead grew to 8-1 in the sixth inning on a two-run home run off the bat of Brian Mayer.
  • David Marriggi (4-5) took the loss after allowing five runs on eight hits and five strikeouts over 4.2 innings.
  • Ron Marinaccio (2-2) earned the victory after giving up one run on two hits and seven strikeouts over seven innings.
  • Plagge collected two hits, including his second home run of the season.
