HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Towson University baseball team got base hits from eight of its nine hitters, but it was not enough as the Tigers fell, 7-4, to James Madison Saturday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Park.
How it Happened
- The Tigers (17-28, 5-12 CAA) got on the board in the first inning after Mark Grunberg singled and stole second. Colin Gimblet drove in Grunberg with a single through the right side.
- The Dukes (20-24, 4-13 CAA) answered back in the home half of the inning with a Kyle McPherson leadoff home run.
- Towson regained the lead with two outs in the second as Colin Dyer ripped a 1-2 pitch over the wall in left field for a solo shot. It was the second homer of the season for the senior.
- JMU got RBI singles from McPherson and Fox Semones as part of a three-run fourth inning to take the lead.
- A.J. Gallo helped the Tigers score again in the sixth with a base hit and a stolen base. Cuinn Mullins plated hit with a single up the middle.
- McPherson helped to extend the Dukes lead with his second home run of the game, this time a two-run shot.
- The top of the Tiger lineup scored the final run in the ninth inning as Grunberg doubled down the left-field line and scored on a Richie Palacios double down the left-field line.
- Grunberg led the way for the Tigers by going 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored.
- Gimblet and Billy Lennox each added two hits.
- Michael Adams (2-6) took the loss after allowing seven runs on 10 hits over 5.1 innings.
- Brandy Vogtsberger had his second strong outing of the week as he allowed just two hits over 2.2 shutout innings.
- Colton Harlow (2-2) picked up the victory after surrendering three runs on eight hits over 5.2 innings.
