GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Towson University women's soccer team split its road trip results this weekend, falling 1-0 at East Carolina University on Sunday to round out the longest nonconference road swing of the season for the Tigers.
Towson (2-1-1) had a handful of chances to score, but the efforts fell just wide of the goal, including the would-be leveler in the 86
th minute.
How It Happened
- The initial feeling-out period did not last long as East Carolina (3-0-0) got off three shots and a corner kick in a two minute stretch.
- Towson goalkeeper Taylor Sebolao made a sprawling save on a long-range shot in the sixth minute to keep a clean sheet.
- East Carolina broke the deadlock in the 11th minute as Caslin Copley converted a cross from Veronica Thordardottir.
- It was nearly another 10 minutes before Sebolao made her second and final save of the half on a ranged shot from Ashley Kendrot.
- In the 14th minute, junior forward Evelyn Neidert slipped past her defender on the endline and took a shot that leaked just wide of the far post.
- Towson turned on the pressure out of the halftime break as Sarah Quick received a cross from Neidert but the former banged the shot off the bottom of the left post. Maddie Bové collected the rebound and put another shot goalward, but the attempt was blocked by an ECU defender.
- Sebolao made another save in the 70th minute on a Courtney Cash to keep it a one-goal game.
- Late in the game, McKenzie McCaull had a great chance in front of the Pirate goal but that attempt fell just wide of the mark in the 86th minute.
Behind the Numbers
- The Tigers suffered their first loss of 2017, slipping to 2-1-1 overall on the season.
- Sebolao made four saves for the Tigers in goal. Her counterpart, Michelle Newhouse was not forced to make a save in the win.
- East Carolina took 13 total shots in the game, but only five were on goal. The Tigers took five total attempts, including four in the final 45 minutes.
- Towson is 0-2-0 all-time against East Carolina, but both setbacks have been one-goal losses.
- The Tigers have not allowed multiple goals in any of their four games thus far in 2017.
