Tigers Total Season Highs in Shots, Corners in Loss at Rider

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The Towson University field hockey team totaled seven shots and 10 penalty corners, both season highs, but the Tigers could not convert any of their chances as they fell to Rider Friday night at Ben Cohen Field, 4-0.

How It Happened
  • Rider had the game's first six shots, two of which were saved by senior Emilee Woodall, before the Marion Waterkeyn scored off a rebound to give the Broncs a 1-0 less than 13 minutes in.
  • Towson followed with four consecutive penalty corners which led to two shots, the first by senior Taylor Kvilhaug that resulted in a defensive save.
  • Freshman Kendra Sykes also registered a shot for the Tigers, but it was blocked.
  • A fifth penalty corner two minutes later led to another shot by Kvilhaug that was saved by Broncs goalie Lena Vandam.
  • Five minutes later, Towson had another flurry of activity looking for the game-tying goal, totaling three shots and two penalty corners.
  • After back-to-back saves by Vandam, a third shot by Kvilhaug was deflected up into the air and hit the crossbar, keeping Rider in front by one.
  • On the ensuing possession for the Broncs, Shannon Hughes scored to increase Rider's lead to 2-0.
  • After the opening 13 minutes, Towson held the Broncs to just three shots over the final 22 minutes of the first half. Unfortunately, two of those resulted in goals, including Rider's third with just 31 seconds remaining in the half.
  • The Tiger defense and senior Emilee Woodall turned away the Broncs' first five shots and penalty corners of the second half before Towson earned its first corner of the half and eighth of the game.
  • Woodall made three more saves before the Tigers drew their final two corners of the game and a shot by freshman Peppe Haantjes that was blocked.
  • Rider would get its fourth goal of the game with just 36 seconds remaining when Kaitlyn Flemming picked up her second.
