Tigers Suffer Hard-Fought Road Loss at Stony Brook

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Towson University football team dropped its Colonial Athletica Association (CAA) opener, 25-17, to stony Brook Saturday evening at LaValle Stadium.
 
How it Happened
  • The Tigers (2-2, 0-1 CAA) got on the board first as they marched nine plays on their opening drive to reach the endzone.
  • Adrian Feliz-Platt started the drive by gaining 15 yards over the right side.
  • Facing a third down, Kobe Young took the handoff and went around right end for a 27-yard gain.
  • Young would cap the drive five plays later with a two-yard touchdown run, the first of his career.
  • The Seawolves (3-1, 2-0 CAA) answered back with a touchdown of their own on the next drive.
  • Ryan Stover and Rodney Dorsey connected on a 73-yard pass play on the first play of the next drive.
  • The Tigers would settle for a 29-yard Aidan O'Neill field goal.
  • SBU would tie the game midway through the second quarter before taking the lead on a touchdown right before the half.
  • Towson put together a 13-play drive in the third quarter to find the endzone for the second time in the game. 
  • The big play of the drive came on a 3rd-and-17 when Brent Richardson made an unbelievable one-handed catch for a 19-yard reception.
  • Stover carried the ball on the next three plays for 21 yards and C.J. Williams ended the drive by diving over the top from two-yards out.
  • Trailing by five points late in the game, the Tigers offense drove into SBU territory.
  • Facing a fourth down, the Tigers fumbled the ball and the Seawolves recovered.
 
Inside the Numbers
  • The loss by the Tigers marked the first time the home team won in the five games against Stony Brook.
  • Kobe Young scored his first career touchdown in the first quarter.  He finished the game with 31 yards on five carries.
  • C.J. Williams also scored his first touchdown as a Tiger in the third quarter.
  • Pat Toomey averaged 54.8 yards on four punts, including a career-long 70-yarder.
  • Rodney Dorsey finished with 140 all-purpose yards.  He had 77 receiving yards, 61 kickoff return yards and two rushing yards.
 
Up Next
The Tigers play their first home game in a month when they welcome Villanova to Unitas Stadium.  Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
