Defense Forces Four Turnovers In Setback To No. 14 Villanova

TOWSON, Md. - Towson University defensive back Monty Fenner intercepted a pair of passes and the Tiger defense did not allow a completion in the second half, but in the end, turnovers were the difference as No. 14 Villanova walked out of Unitas Stadium with a 24-9 victory Saturday night.

How it Happened
  • VU (3-2, 1-1 CAA) got on the board first as they used a 15-play opening drive to get a seven-yard touchdown pass from Jack Schetelich to Taurus Phillips.
  • The Tigers (2-3, 0-2 CAA) got on the board midway through the second quarter as the capitalized on the first of two Fenner interceptions.
  • On the first play of the drive, Ryan Stover hit Sam Gallahan over the middle for a 38-yard completion.
  • Stover followed it up with a nine-yard completion to Jabari Greenwood before capping the drive with a three-yard touchdown run on third down.
  • Towson started the third quarter by going on a 17-play drive.  The drive was mainly done on the ground as 11 of the plays were rushing plays.
  • The drive would stall at the VU 10 yard line and Aidan O'Neill would kick a 27-yard field goal.
  • The Wildcats regained the lead on their next series as a big kickoff return set up a 46-yard field goal off the leg of Drew Kresge.
  • With the Tigers trailing by one early in the fourth quarter, Keon Paye intercepted a pass deep in his own territory.
  • Unfortunately, the Tigers fumbled on the next play and the Wildcats were able to score a touchdown.
  • Later on in the quarter, the Tigers once again turned the ball over deep in their own territory and VU was again able to capitalize with a touchdown.
