Turnovers the Difference Against #13 Richmond

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University football team had chances to get on the scoreboard, but it was six turnovers that were the difference in the Tigers 23-3 loss to No. 13 Richmond Saturday night at Johnny Unitas® Stadium.
 
How it Happened
  • The game got off to a strange start as the Spiders connected on a 46-yard pass on the first play of the game. 
  • On the play, Mitch Boals knocked the ball out and Keon Paye was able to recover the fumble.
  • After the team's exchanged punts on the next three possessions, Richmond got on the board with a 31-yard run from Gordon Collins.
  • That is when things took a turn for the Tiger offense as they turned the ball over three consecutive plays.
  • After the Tigers second turnover, the Spiders were driving into the red zone.  That is when Paye stepped in front of a pass for his second interception of the season.  Paye returned the interception for a touchdown, but it was called back due to a penalty.
  • The Spiders added 10 points off a pair of Tiger turnovers in the second quarter to take a 17-0 lead into the half.
  • The second half belonged to the Racers defense as they held the Spiders to just 110 yards of offense.
  • Redshirt freshman Triston Harris and engineered a 15-play scoring drive that spanned the end of the third quarter and the start of the fourth quarter.
  • Harris converted three third downs on the play before the Tigers settled for a 21-yard field goal from Aidan O'Neill.
 
Inside the Numbers
  • Keon Paye recorded his second interception of the season in the first quarter.  It was the seventh interception at home for the Tigers defense this season.
  • In his first career action, Triston Harris went 15-for-28 for 153 yards and one interception.  He also rushed for 22 yards.
  • Jabari Greenwood had another solid game with eight catches for 108 yards.   It was his second 100-yard receiving game this season and the third with at least eight receptions.
  •  John Tsimis added four catches for 25 yards.
  • Diondre Wallace led the defense with nine tackles.
  • Chris Tedder and Bryce Carter each added a sack.
  • Keon Paye finished with an interception and a fumble recovery.

The Tigers hit the road to face New Hampshire on Oct. 21.  Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
