WASHINGTON, D.C. – Despite sustaining plenty of pressure in the second half, the Towson University women's soccer team fell 1-0 to host George Washington University Thursday afternoon.
The game at the GW Soccer Field was deadlocked until the 52
nd minute when Colonial Sofia Pavon scored.
How It Happened
- After George Washington took the first shot of the game, the Colonials (2-2-1) got another chance in the sixth minute, but the breakaway was shut down by Towson (3-3-1) keeper Taylor Sebolao.
- Towson had its first offensive chance of the game in the eighth minute as Maddie Bové slid a ball in to McKenzie McCaull. The latter got a foot on the ball, but the shot trickled just right of the goal.
- In the 17th minute, Towson got a corner kick, sailed in by Evelyn Neidert, who found a waiting Kristyn Hubbard in the box. The Tiger defender ripped a shot but hit a GW defender in the back and thwarted the chance.
- The Colonials countered in the 21st minute but Sebolao stopped the Charley Prevost shot on goal.
- Towson had its best chance of the first half on a header from Elizabeth Coletti, but that attempt kissed off the front of the left post. Towson's Sarah Quick came in for a clean up opportunity, but the chance was halted by GW keeper Miranda Horn.
- The first half ended in a 0-0 tie, despite Towson taking eight shots against George Washington's six. The Tigers had five first-half corner kicks.
- George Washington went on the offensive early as Pavon chipped in her second goal of the season.
- Towson's best opportunity of the game came in the 62nd minute as Bové put a header goalward, forcing Horn to scramble for the save. The keeper dropped to her knees and fell backwards over the ball to keep it clear of the goal line.
- The Tigers had a free position kick just outside the GW penalty area, but Horn made another save to keep the clean sheet.

- Towson out-shot the Colonials 13-8 in the game, including 5-2 in the second half.
- Sebolao made five saves in the contest while her counterpart made six stops.
- The Tigers earned five corner kicks in the contest, all coming in the first half.
