Tigers Head to James Madison on Friday

Virginia Here We Come: The Towson University women's basketball team heads to Virginia for a pair of Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) games this weekend. The action starts Friday, Jan. 5 as the Tigers visit James Madison. Opening tip in Harrisonburg, Virginia is set for 7 p.m. Links to live stats and the video feed can be found on the schedule page of TowsonTigers.com. Fans can also follow the Tigers on Twitter (@Towson_WBB) for updates.

Series History: Looking to ride the momentum of last season's two-game sweep, the Tigers resume their series with James Madison. The Dukes lead the all-time match-up 39-5. However last year, the Tigers earned a 54-51 win at home and followed that up with a 60-55 win in Harrisonburg. The road win over the Dukes was the first ever for the Tigers at JMU.

Twenty-Twenty Vision: Towson senior forward Mary Cuevas led the Tigers on Sunday as she posted a game-high 21 points. Cuevas was 9-for-18 from the field. She also shot 50 percent from the free throw line as the Madrid, Spain native was 3-for-6. For Cuevas it was her third straight game with 20 or more points and fourth of the season (23-Wagner, 20-Radford, 23-Northeastern, 21-College of Charleston).

I'll Take That: Towson grabbed 14 steals in Sunday's game versus College of Charleston. The Tigers have now recorded 20 steals in the last two games combined. Ten of the 11 Tigers that have appeared in a conference game so far have at least one steal. Redshirt senior guard Raine Bankston leads the team with six steals in CAA action while three other Tigers have at least five swipes in those two games combined. Towson has now recorded double digit steals in six games this season. The Tigers are now one of four teams in the CAA to average 10 or more steals per game this season. Towson ranks fourth in the CAA while averaging 10.1 steals per game. Sophomore guard Etalyia Vogt is third in the CAA while contributing 2.2 steals per game.

Miss Assist: Towson redshirt senior guard Raine Bankston has 24 assists this season after handing out three during the opening weekend of CAA play. That raised Bankston's career assists total as a Tiger to 176 assists in 72 games. She enters play this weekend ranked 24th in Towson history for career assists. Bankston needs 17 more assists to move into the top 20 for career assists at Towson.

Welcome to the Block Party: Towson picked up six blocks in Sunday's contest against College of Charleston. Senior Mary Cuevas led the way with two blocks while four other Tigers recorded at least one rejection. It was the 11th time this season the Tigers have recorded more blocks than their opponent in a game. Towson comes into Friday's action with 80 blocks on the season and averaging 6.2 blocks per game. The Tigers are within six blocks of their blocked shots total from a year ago. Ten Tigers have recorded at least one block this season. That group is led by Cuevas who has 26 rejections and ranks third in the CAA while averaging 2.0 blocks per game.

Seeing Double: Towson sophomore forward Nukiya Mayo had 17 points and 10 rebounds against the College of Charleston on Sunday. It was Mayo's second straight double-double performance and third of the season. The Tigers have now seen eight double-double performances from one of their players this season (Mary Cuevas-five, Mayo-three).

We'll Take the Charity: Towson has been solid shooting the ball from the free throw line this season. The Tigers were 17-for-27 (63 percent) from the charity stripe against the College of Charleston. Redshirt senior guard Raine Bankston went 5-for-8 in the game while freshman forward Tess Borgosz was a perfect 4-for-4. Towson has now made 10 or more free throws in 12 of its 13 games this season. The Tigers made a season-high 27 free throws twice (UMBC and Loyola). Towson enters play this weekend having made 213-of-302 chances and ranked second in the CAA with a 70.5 free throw percentage. Bankston leads the Tigers and ranks eighth in the CAA with a 72.7 free throw percentage (48-for-66).
