TOWSON, Md. -- The Towson University women's soccer team played a tight first half against James Madison University Thursday afternoon but two goals in the second half resulted in a 2-0 loss for the Tigers.

Towson (3-11-1, 0-5-0 CAA) was out-shot 11-1 in the first half, but put offensive pressure back on the Dukes in the second half with nine attempts, five of which were on goal.

James Madison (6-7-0, 3-1-0) had two points from Ginger Deel, who posted two assists. Haley Crawford and Claire Meiser scored the goals for the Dukes.

How it Happened

  • The Dukes controlled the pace of the action through much of the first half until the 34th minute when Towson's Elizabeth Coletti put a chance on goal, but was thwarted by Hannah McShea in cage.
  • James Madison got the final shot on goal of the first half with Abby Maltese on the attempt, but again Collins made the save to keep things scoreless through 45 minutes.
  • Out of the break, it was the Tigers turn to put the early pressure on as Towson got two shots in a minute from Sydney Davis and McKenzie McCaull. Justine Stoner added a corner kick in that stretch as well.
  • After a shot on goal from Alexis Toles, McShea got the ball up to midfield where Deel flicked a header on to Crawford who then broke the tie and put James Madison up 1-0 in the 53rd minute.
  • James Madison kept the ball in the Tigers' defensive end, setting up Meiser for a goal in the 58th minute on a feed from Deel, who played in a cross from the left side to Meiser in the penalty area.
  • Freshman Jenna Blank looked to right the ship for the Tigers in the 61st minute as she put a chance on goal, but McShea made the stop, but allowed Towson a corner opportunity.
  • Towson had two corner chances in the 65th and 67th minutes but neither opportunity fell towards an offensive player and the Dukes cleared their defensive half to win the match by a 2-0 count.
