Shusterman Wins Singles Flight at Blue & Gold Invitational

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Towson University tennis team wrapped up action at the Gold & Blue Invitational hosted by the United States Naval Academy on Sunday.
 
The End Results
Through the weekend the Tigers went 10-8 in singles play and 6-4 in doubles. In today's ending, Yevgeniya Shusterman came out with the finals win in her draw for singles, bringing home the hardware.
 
How it Happened
  • Saturday placed members of the Towson squad in positions all over, including Shusterman in the finals for her bracket and Phoebe Collins in the final of the consolation for another singles flight.
  • Collins fell to Richmond's Adrienne Haynes, who Shusterman defeated in the opening round of the flight.
  • The Tigers took wins over Navy, Maryland, Saint Francis, Mary Washington, Richmond, and Rutgers in singles play.
  • In doubles action, the teams wearing Black and Gold took wins against Maryland, Navy, Richmond and Saint Francis.
 
From the Coach
"Lots of positives to take from the weekend of play," said head coach Jamie Peterson. "The tough competition was a good test for us, there are still some areas of competitiveness and focus that we need to work on. Hope to finish the fall strong next weekend."
 
End of Fall Action
Next weekend Towson is set to compete in the ITA Regional Tournament hosted by Liberty University to cap the fall season.
