TOWSON, Md. – The Towson women's basketball team finished Saturday night with another strong win over A10 opponent La Salle. Led by
Kionna Jeter who scored a season-high 32 points, the Tigers had three players score in double digits on their way to the 92-68 victory.
How it Happened
- The opening minutes were a slow start for both sides, trading buckets and tying the score several times. Towson's biggest lead in the first period was just three points, ending the quarter with a 15-12 advantage.
- As the second period started, the Tigers began to gain momentum. Junior Nukiya Mayo scored five-straight points following two layups and a made free throw, helping the home team extend the lead to eight.
- Jeter followed just two minutes later with back-to-back layups and Towson rolled out to a 17-point lead.
- As time wound down to halftime, the Explorers and Tigers struggled at the rim with several rebounds and second chance attempts after substitutions from the home team to give the starters a break.
- Towson entered the locker room with just a seven point lead after leading by 17 minutes before.
- La Salle came out and drew a foul on the first play of the second half, cutting the lead to five in the opening seconds of the third quarter.
- The Tigers held the lead the entire period but with fluctuation as the road team fought to get back in it.
- With nine minutes, 10 seconds left on the clock, the Explorers were within nine of tying it up, but that was as close as they would get.
- Towson went on an 8-0 run in the middle of the fourth quarter and reached a peak lead of 24 points to win the game.
Beyond the Box
- Jeter's 32 points are paired with a team-high five steals and two blocked shots, along with three assists tied for first with Mayo.
- Mayo had her first double-double of the season with 22 points and 11 rebounds, matching her 2017-18 season high in both categories.
- Q. Murray also scored in double digits with 13 points, grabbed four rebounds and had two assists.
- Freshman Janeen Camp was also solid on the boards with seven in 12 minutes of action.
- Saturday's win is the first over La Salle since the 1979-80 season when the Tigers defeated the Explorers in a TU Invitational, 84-72. La Salle had won the last three meetings between the two teams.
- The win was also the first time since last year's game against Saint Joseph's on Dec. 5 that Towson scored 90 or more points.
- The Tigers are 2-0 against A10 opponents so far this year after defeating UMass last weekend.

Towson hits the road for a short-distance trip to UMBC on Tuesday evening to face the Retrievers.
