TOWSON, Md. – The All-America honors continue to roll in for Towson University football, with two Tigers being chosen for the 2018 HERO Sports FCS All-American Team.
Shane Simpson is a First Team All-American as an all-purpose player while
Tom Flacco is a Third Team All-American as a quarterback.
Simpson picks up his third All-America honor of the season while Flacco is an All-American for the first time in 2018.
Simpson is the first-ever Towson player to be named First Team All-America by HERO Sports. In addition, he and Flacco are the first Towson players to be selected as All-Americans by HERO Sports since 2016.
So far in 2018, Simpson, Flacco,
Aidan O'Neill and
Matt Kauffman have notched as least one All-America selection.
Simpson finished the season with 2,058 all-purpose yards, averaging 171.5 yards per game, second in all of FCS. The redshirt junior running back and CAA Special Teams Player of the Year amassed 887 kick return yards, 711 rushing yards, 346 receiving yards and 104 punt return yards, having a total of 12 touchdowns.
Flacco served as Towson's quarterback in all 12 games, standing third in FCS with 332.8 yards of total offense a game. The redshirt junior was the CAA Offensive Player of the Year was Towson's leader in passing, with 3251 yards and 28 touchdowns in the air, and the leader in rushing with 742 yards on the ground, adding four touchdowns.
