Towson Excited For First Meeting Against Tulane In Program History

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University men's basketball team returns to action after a 10-day layoff to participate in the Boardwalk Battle presented by Coca-Cola. The Tigers first challenge is Tulane. The tournament also features La Salle and Alabama A&M.

Fobbs on Fire
  • Fobbs earned his first career CAA Player of the Week honor on Dec. 17.

  • Fobbs was 10-for-10 from the foul line becoming the third Tiger under Pat Skerry to be perfect at the free-throw line with that many attempts. Four McGlynn was 13-for-13 at UMBC on Nov. 29, 2014 and Rafel Guthrie was 10-for-10 at James Madison on Feb. 26, 2014.
  • Fobbs has scored in double figures in six straight games.
  • Fobbs has scored 25 or more points in three of Towson's last four games. He is ranked eighth in the CAA in scoring with a 16.4 point per game average.
 
A Look At Tulane
  • The Green Wave have defeated Texas Southern Coastal Carolina, South Dakota State and UT-Martin this season.
  • Tulane has been paced by a balanced scoring attack with four players averaging at least nine points: Caleb Daniels (16.7 ppg.), Jordan Cornish (12.3), Samir Sehic (11.6, 7.3 rebounds per game) and Shakwon Barrett (9.2).
  • Barrett and Cornish have combined for 71 assists.
  • Sehic scored a career and game-high 28 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Tulane to a 77-70 win over Texas Southern on Monday night. He was the fifth Tulane player to score at least 20 points in a game this season.
  • Daniels scored in double-figures for the ninth straight game, finishing with 21 points on 7-for-9 shooting.
 
A Look At Alabama A&M
  • The Bulldogs are members of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC).
  • If the Tigers meet the Bulldogs, it will be the first time in program history that Towson will play a game against a SWAC opponent.
  • Jalen Reeder is Alabama A&M's top scorer at 12.8 points per game. Arthur Johnson (10.5 ppg.) and Andre Kennedy (10.2 ppg., 5.6 rebounds per game) also average double digits for the Bulldogs.
  • Brandon Miller leads Alabama A&M with 37 assists.
  • Like Towson, Alabama A&M has played three home games this season.
     
A Look At La Salle
  • The Tigers and Explorers aren't strangers to each other.
  • Towson defeated La Salle 67-60 last year in the Belfast Classic.
  • If the Tigers meet La Salle, it will be their fourth game against a team with a first-year head coach.
  • One of La Salle's setbacks is to Colonial Athletic Conference (CAA) foe Drexel.
  • Pookie Powell is the Explorers' top scorer (18.3 ppg.). Jack Clark (12.0) and Isiah Deas (11.6) are also double digit scorers for La Salle, which averages 71.1 points per outing.
  • Traci Carter dishes 4.2 assists per game.
  • The Explorers are 0-3 on neutral courts.
 
Perfection When It Comes to Graduation
  • Towson has a perfect men's basketball graduation rate under head coach Pat Skerry.
  • The Tigers are 21-for-21.
 
Towson In the Community
  • In addition to the athletic and academic success, the Tigers also made an impact in the communitylast season as they ranked first nationally in Division I men's team sports for their community service activities in the 2017 NCAA Team Works Helper Helper Community Service Competition.
  • Towson is the Division I national champion of the NCAA Team Works Helper Helper Competition for the Fall 2018 semester. Towson completed the most community service hours among all schools in the competition, including 75 different Division I departments and approximately 300 total programs across the country.
 
Coaches Powering Forward
  • Autism Speaks Coaches Powering Forward will take place on the weekend of February 15-17, 2019.
  • The Tigers host Drexel on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 2 p.m.
  • Last season, more than 375 NCAA coaches participated by wearing an Autism Speaks blue puzzle piece lapel pin to help increase understanding and acceptance of people with autism.
  • In total, more than 4,400 pins were worn by coaching staff, officials, broadcasters, and school teams.
  • Autism currently affects one in every 59 children in the U.S and for most, is a lifelong condition.
