Tunstall Ties Career Best Rebounding Total Against GW

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Towson University men's basketball team had three players finish with double digit scoring totals during a 68-64 non-conference setback to George Washington at the Charles E. Smith Center Wednesday night.
 
How It Happened
  • Brian Fobbs led Towson in scoring for the third straight game with 17 points and six rebounds.
  • Nkaye Sanders and Nicolas Timberlake added 10 points each for the Tigers.
  • Dennis Tunstall's career-high tying 13 rebounds helped the Tigers win the battle of the boards, 36-24.
  • Tunstall's one-handed slam dunk off of a rebound provided Towson its final edge of the game, 56-55, with 5 minutes, 19 seconds remaining.
  • Terry Nolan, Jr., who scored 16 of his game-high 24 points in the second half, gave GW the lead for good, 58-57, with 4:23 remaining.
  • Towson's largest lead peaked at 52-45 with 10:39 left.
  • Nolan Jr. scored 12 points over the final 10 minutes, including nine consecutive during a three-minute stretch.
  • The Tigers committed three turnovers on four possessions that allowed GW to stay in the game and eventually rally.
  • Towson gained control early in the second half with a 10-0 burst that turned a six-point deficit into a 43-39 lead with 15:53 remaining.
  • Despite falling into a quick 23-10 hole nine minutes into the game, the Tigers fought back to trail, 35-33 at intermission.
  • Also reaching double digits for the Colonials was D.J. Williams, who finished with 19 points.
 
Inside the Numbers
  • For Tunstall, it's the third time in his career he's pulled 13 rebounds in a game.
  • Tunstall had 13 boards against Goucher (Nov. 30, 2016) and Hofstra (Feb. 24, 2017).
  • Tunstall has finished with at least six rebounds in six of Towson's eight games.
  • Through eight games, Tunstall is averaging 7.1 rebounds per game.
  • Fobbs has scored in double figures in four straight games and five of the Tigers last six games.
  • Timberlake reached double digits in scoring for the third time this season.
  • The Tigers committed five turnovers in the final 10 minutes.
  • During a stretch of the first half, Towson held GW without a basket for over five minutes.
  • Nolan attempted more foul shots (14) than Towson did as a team (12).
  • Tigers won the battle of the benches, 17-5, behind Timberlake.
