Natalie Sulmonte totaled six points with three goals and three assists a defensive stop by sophomore
Sami Chenoweth in the final seconds preserved the 19th-ranked Tigers' 14-13 victory over No. 4 Penn State in the season opener for both teams Saturday at Unitas Stadium.
Towson (1-0) posted its first win in nine all-time meetings against the Nittany Lions and it is believed to be the program's first win over a top five team.
Sulmonte also added four draw controls while sophomore
Olivia Conti had six draw controls, four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Junior
Carly Tellekamp added three goals and one assist.
How It Happened
- Sulmonte totaled five points in the first half with three goals and two assists as the Tigers built their largest lead at 11-5.
- Lead 4-3 with 17:01 remaining, Towson scored seven of the final 10 goals in the half, including four in just 2:14 with Sulmonte scoring twice and senior Kaitlyn Montalbano picking up two assists.
- Senior Gabby Cha also scored three first-half goals while freshman Kaitlin Thornton netted her first career goal with 2:56 left to give the Tigers their six-point halftime lead.
- Led by four goals from Madison Carter, Penn State mounted a second-half rally, outscoring the Tigers, 8-3.
- After Tellekamp's third goal of the game and second in-a-row, Towson led 14-9 with 6:55 to play. However, the Nittany Lions scored four goals over the final five minutes, including two in the final 48 seconds as they looked to force overtime.
- After winning its fourth consecutive draw with 34 seconds remaining, Penn State looked to tie the game with 20 seconds remaining. Just outside the crease, Kelly Daggett was stick checked from behind by Chenoweth for her fourth caused turnover of the game which rolled to sophomore Kiley Keating, allowing Towson to run out the clock.

- Sulmonte finished one point shy of her career high.
- Conti shattered her career high with six draw controls, surpassing the previous mark of two.

- Keating picked up her second career win in her third career start after totaling seven saves. She is now 2-2 in 12 appearances.

- The game featured 66 fouls, seven yellow cards and one green card.
- The Nittany Lions were led by six goals from Carter.
- Lucy Lowe suffered the loss in goal after allowing nine goals and making three saves. She played for 20 minutes before she was spelled by Madison Cunningham.
