Tigers Drop Season Opener

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The Towson University baseball team got off to a slow start as it fell 24-4 in the season opener at New Mexico State.

How it Happened
  • The Aggies got on the board in the first inning as the five-run inning was sparked by a grand slam from Tristen Carranza.
  • NMSU would extend their advantage with five runs in the third inning and 11 more in the fourth.
  • Towson finally got on the board in the sixth inning as Richie Palacios led off the inning with a double down the left-field line.  After advancing to third, Palacios scored on a Trey Martinez single to center field.
  • The Tigers found a bit offense in the eighth inning as Martinez and Logan Burke singled with one out.  Andrew Cassard drove in a run with an infield single to third base.
  • Billy Lennox followed with a hard-hit ball to short that was misplayed, allowing Burke to score.  A wild pitch pushed across the third run of the inning.
  • Junior Joe Enea made his Towson debut and was the most effective pitcher for the Tigers.  The junior allowed just one run on three hits and two strikeouts over 3.0 innings.
  • Michael Adams (0-1) got the start and suffered the loss.  He allowed eight earned runs and struck out four over three-plus innings.
  • Burke came off the bench to go 2-for-2 with a double.  Martinez added two hits and an RBI.
