Tigers Place Five in Double Figures at Hofstra

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Towson University women's basketball team placed five players in double figures in an 83-72 loss to Hofstra Sunday afternoon at the Mack Sports Complex.

How it Happened
  • Hofstra (11-15, 5-10 CAA) used a 14-0 run in the first quarter to build the early advantage that proved to be the difference in the game.
  • After the early deficit, Nukiya Mayo went to work on the glass, pulling down six rebounds, four offensive in the second quarter.  The work helped the Tigers play a near even second quarter.
  • Towson (9-17, 4-11 CAA) started the second half down by 19 points.  A layup from Mayo, a three-pointer from Danielle Durjan and a bucket from Mariah Gray had the Tigers within 13 points just over two minutes into the quarter.
  • Raine Bankston would convert a three-point play late in the quarter to bring the deficit to 12, the closest it had been since early in the first half.
  • Mary Cuevas sparked the offense in the fourth as the Tigers opened on a 10-4 run to pull within 10 at 69-59.
  • The teams would exchange baskets on the next couple of possessions.  Towson had a chance to pull within eight, but a shot from in close rattled out.  The Pride capitalized and used a 7-0 run to extend the lead back to 17 points.
  • Mayo got the friendly bounce on a triple from the top of the key and Bankston scored down low to bring the final margin to 11 points.
