Last Time Out For Towson
Justin Gorham posted his third double-double of the season during Towson's 80-75 setback against Northeastern at Matthews Arena Thursday night. Gorham scored a career best 28 points and added 12 rebounds for the Tigers. He was one of four Towson players to finish in double digits.
Mike Morsell scored 12 points to move past Ralph Blalock and into seventh place on the all-time Towson University scoring chart. Morsell has 1,499 career points.
Zane Martin and
Eddie Keith II finished with 11 points each for the Tigers.
A Look At Hofstra
Hofstra enters with a three-game winning streak. Overall, the Pride has won four of its last five games. Sophomore Eli Pemberton scored a team-high 22 points to lead Hofstra to a wire-to-wire 77-61 victory over James Madison on Thursday evening at the JMU Convocation Center. Justin Ray finished with 15 points. After a slow start, Justin Wright-Foreman scored nine second half points to finish with 11. Desure Buie also had 11 points and dealt seven assists. Rokas Gustys had eight points and a game-high nine rebounds. With his nine rebounds, Gustys now trails David Robinson by 27 for the all-time CAA rebounding record (1,314 from 1983-87).Wright-Foreman has scored in double-figures in 51 games, the fourth-longest streak in the nation.
Last Meeting Against Hofstra
The Pride beat Towson, 76-73 on Jan. 11 at SECU Arena. Jalen Ray hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to cap Hofstra's rally from a 10-point deficit in the final five minutes. Justin Wright-Foreman scored 35 points to lead Hofstra. Eli Pemberton had 12 points. The tough setback ended Towson's 14-game home court winning streak and spoiled
Justin Gorham's career-high 20 point performance. He was 7-for-7 from the field in 25 minutes.
Zane Martin added 17 points and
Eddie Keith II scored 10 points for the Tigers.
Hofstra-Towson Season Finale
This is the second time since 2001 that Towson and Hofstra have met in the final regular season contest. Towson beat Hofstra, 61-60, on Feb. 25, 2001 on the road. The Tigers beat Hofstra 67-64 on March 2, 2013 to finish an 18-win season and cap the best single-season turnaround in Division I history.
CAA Tournament Presented by Jersey Mikes Scenarios
Towson clinches the No. 5 seed with a win over Hofstra or Elon loses one of its last 2 games. Elon plays home vs NU (tomorrow) and JMU (Monday). Towson is the No. 6 seed if it loses to Hofstra and Elon wins twice.
If Hofstra and William & Mary finish tied at 11-7, William & Mary would be the No. 3 seed and Hofstra would be the No. 4 seed. They split their head-to-head matchup, but William & Mary would win the tiebreaker based on their win over #1 Charleston tomorrow (which would have to happen for them to get to 11-7).
Great Gorham
Since entering the starting lineup on Feb. 1 at Delaware,
Justin Gorham has averaged 11.9 points and 10.1 rebounds. He has had two outings of 20 or more points, two double-doubles, and four games in which he's grabbed double digits. He had a career best 28 points against Northeastern. Gorham also pulled down a career best 17 rebounds against James Madison.
Nationally Speaking
Currently with a RPI of 151, Towson is ranked among the top 50 in six categories: 22nd in total rebounds (1,146), 28th in offensive rebounds per game (12.5), 29th in blocks (134), 37th in rebounding margin (5.5), 44th in free-throw attempts (640), and 45th in blocked shots per game (4.5).
