Bottom of the Lineup Produces Saturday

RICHMOND, Va. – The Towson University baseball jumped out to an early advantage, but Richmond took advantage of eight walks to defeat the Tigers, 7-3, Saturday afternoon at Pitt Field.
 
How it Happened
  • Towson (1-4) got on the board in the fourth inning after Richie Palacios lined a solo home run to left center, his third of the season.
  • The Tigers added to the lead in the fifth as Triston Howerton followed a Billy Lennox double with an RBI double into the left-field corner.  Dirk Masters followed with an RBI single to score Howerton.
  • David Marriggi allowed the lead to stay through fir the first five innings as he struck out four in not allowing a run.
  • Trouble started in the sixth as a pair of walks and a hit batter loaded the bases with one out.  UR (4-2) scored a pair of runs on a double, but Jake Pecilunas limited the damage with a pop up and a strikeout.
  • The Spiders gained their first lead of the game in the seventh as a single tied the game and a bases-loaded walk made it a 4-3 game.  The third run of the frame scored on a 6-4-3 double play.
  • UR added two more runs in the eighth to help extend its lead.
  • Pecilunas (0-1) suffered the loss after he gave up three runs on three hits over two-thirds of an inning.
  • James Hulbert (1-0) picked up the victory out of the bullpen, retiring all seven hitters he faced.
  • Dalton Light (1) was credited with the save after giving up just one hit over two innings.
  • Lennox and Masters each went 2-for-3.
  • The Tigers got five of their six hits from the bottom three hitters in the lineup.
