RICHMOND, Va. – The Towson University baseball team got home runs from
Bo Plagge and
Charlie Watters, but it was not enough as the Tigers fell, 10-5, to Richmond Sunday afternoon at Pitt Field.
How it Happened
- The Spiders (5-2) jumped out to the early advantage as a solo home run Vinny Capra and a passed ball made it a 2-0 game after one inning.
- Towson (1-5) got one of the runs back in the second as Plagge hit a leadoff shot off the batter-s eye in center field.
- Trailing by two in the third inning, Tristan Howerton started the inning with a base on balls. After a sacrifice bunt and another walk to Dirk Masters, Richie Palacios went the other way for an RBI double into the corner in left field.
- Watters gave Towson its first lead of the game in the fourth as he followed a Billy Lennox double with a two-run shot to left field.
- The Spiders regained the lead in the fifth on a two-run homer from Kyle Adams and a broken-bat single from Brandon Johnson.
- The Tigers would score their fifth run of the game in the seventh as Richard Miller doubled into the gap in right center and scored on Mark Grunberg's single to right.
- Michael Adams (0-2) took the loss after allowing six run on eight hits over five innings.
- Antonio Balducci (1-0) tossed 1.2 shutout innings to pick up his first victory of the season.
- Palacios, Plagge and Grunberg each collected two hits, while Watters drove in a pair of runs.
