TOWSON, Md. – A pair of big innings proved to be the difference as the Towson University baseball team fell, 15-3, to UAlbany Friday afternoon at Schuerholz Park. The game was completed Saturday afternoon after it was halted in the eighth inning due to darkness on Friday.
How it Happened
- The Great Danes (2-2) got on the scoreboard in the first inning after Brad Malm doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly from Travis Collins.
- Tiger starter Gavin Weyman had his best outing of the season as he fanned five, including a pair in the third inning.
- Weyman (0-2) gutted through four innings before being replaced due to a high pitch count. He allowed two runs, one earned, on four hits and five strikeouts over his four innings of work.
- UA got to the Tigers bullpen in the fifth inning as they pushed across seven runs on four hits and five walks from the Tigers.
- The struggles on the mound continued in the sixth as the Great Danes were able to push across five more runs.
- Towson (1-6) finally got on the board in the sixth inning as Richie Palacios ripped a double into the right-field corner. Andrew Cassard followed with a single to right center and Colin Gimblet drove in Palacios with a fielder's choice.
- The Tigers added a second run in the seventh inning as Craig Alleyne reached second on a two-base throwing error. Two batters later, Cassard grounded a ball up the middle that bounced off the leg of the pitcher for an RBI single.
- Towson came out swinging in the eighth as Gimblet ripped a double to left and scored when Billy Lennox lined a double just inside the left-field line.
- Dominic Savino (1-0) picked up the win for the Great Danes as he allowed one run on three hits and eight strikeouts over 5.1 innings.
- Cassard came off the bench to go 2-for-3 with an RBI.
- Palacios doubled in the sixth to extend his hit streak to 11 games dating back to last season.
