Cabrera Delivers Pinch-Hit Homer in Series Finale

TOWSON, Md. – Towson University sophomore Noah Cabrera delivered a pinch-hit home run to tie the game in the seventh inning in the Tigers 5-3 loss to Marist in the series finale Sunday afternoon.

How it Happened
  • Marist (4-10) jumped out to an early lead on a RBI single from Frankie Gregoire in the first inning.
  • Starter Michael Adams would settle down from there as he tied his career high with eight strikeouts over seven innings.
  • Adams struck out at least one hitter in six of the seven innings he pitched, including striking out the side in the fifth inning.
  • The Red Foxes were able to scratch across a run in that fifth inning to take a 2-0 lead.
  • Towson (3-15) got the run back in the home-half of the inning after Billy Lennox singled thorugh the left side and went to third on an Andrew Cassard single to center.  Two pitches later, Richie Palacios laced a single to right field to score Lennox.
  • The game would remain 2-1 until the seventh inning when Cabrera yanked a 1-0 pitch over the left field fence for his first career home run.
  • The game remained tied for just one inning as the Tigers offense came calling again in the eighth as Mark Grunberg singled into the hole at short and stole second.  After a Colin Gimblet slow roller to third put runners at the corners, Lennox put down a safety squeeze that Grunberg was able to sneak under the tag at home.
  • The lead turned out to be short lived as Jordan Roper started the ninth inning with a solo home run to left.
  • Marist was able to extend the inning with a two-out walk.  A groundball followed that was bobbled and then thrown away at first base, allowing the runner to score from first and the hitter reach third.  Anthony Lazar made it a 5-3 game with a single through the left side.
  • Dean Stramara (1-1) was saddled with the loss, allowing three runs, one earned, on two hits and two strikeouts over 2.0 innings.
  • Mike Coss (2-0) allowed a run on two hits over 2.1 innings to pick up the victory.
  • Cassard and Grunberg each collected two hits.
