Keating Highlights No. 14 Tigers Win at No. 6 Florida

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Highlighted by a career-high 11 saves from sophomore Kiley Keating and a career-high four goals from freshman Kaitlin Thornton, the 14th-ranked Towson University women's lacrosse team rallied from an early deficit to post a 14-11 road victory over No. 6 Florida Wednesday night at Donald R. Dizney Stadium.

The Tigers (6-2) picked up their second top-10 win of the season and the 99th in the career of head coach Sonia LaMonica.

How It Happened
  • Florida (6-3) scored the game's first three goals to take a 3-0 lead less than 10 minutes in.
  • However, Towson responded by scoring the game's next four goals, all within a span of 3:23, to take its first lead.
  • The Gators tied the game for the second time just 1:20 later before the Tigers took control.
  • Junior Carly Tellekamp scored her first goal of the game with 9:14 left in the half off an assist from sophomore Annie Sachs to spark a 4-0 Towson run.
  • Thornton scored twice, separated by a goal from senior Emily Gillingham as the Tigers took an 8-4 lead into halftime.
  • The run continued after the break as senior Kaitlyn Montalbano scored just 17 seconds into the second half before Thornton added her fourth goal of the game five minutes later.
  • Florida finally broke Towson's string of six unanswered goals on a free position shot with 20:27 remaining.
  • The goal was the first for the Gators since the 10:19 mark of the first half, snapping a scoreless streak of 19:52.
  • The Tigers added three more tallies from Montalbano, Gillingham and sophomore Olivia Conti to take their largest lead of the game, 13-5.
  • The Gators scored back-to-back to pull within six, 13-7, before junior Natalie Sulmonte scored on a free position to push the Towson lead back to seven with 6:10 to play.
  • Florida scored the game's final four goals, including two on free positions, but the lead was too large as the Tigers won by three.
