VILLANOVA, Pa. - With the match tied at 2-2, wins by senior Renate Van Oorschodt at No. 5 singles and freshman Alexa Martinez at No. 6 singles sealed a 4-2 road win for the Towson University women's tennis team at Villanova on Tuesday at the Villanova Tennis Complex.
The Tigers (11-9) have now won eight of their last 12 matches and four of the last six on the road.
van Oorschodt gave Towson a 3-2 lead after she defeated Alexandria Krogius at No. 5 singles, 7-6, 6-2. Martinez then sealed the victory for the Tigers with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Paulina Bajet at No. 5 singles.
After the Wildcats (9-8) won two doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead, senior A.J. Gomer picked up Towson's first singles victory to tie the match with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles. Senior Nicole Shakhnazarova then picked up a 7-5, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles to give the Tigers the lead before Carina Burdick tied the match at 2-2 with a win at No. 4 singles.
The Tigers return home to host CAA rival Delaware on Wednesday beginning at 3 p.m., at the Towson Center Courts.
