Tigers Nearly Complete Ninth-Inning Comeback

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Towson University baseball team scored four runs in the ninth inning and brought the go-ahead run on base before falling, 8-7, to William & Mary in the first game of a doubleheader Friday afternoon at Plumeri Park.

  • Dirk Masters drove in the second run of the inning with a single to left center.
  • WM got the two runs back in the fifth on a two-run home run from Zach Pearson.
  • The Tribe scored what turned out to be the game-winning run on a bases-loaded walk in the eighth.
  • The Tigers scored again in the ninth as Logan Burke doubled into the left-field corner and scored on a Colin Gimblet single to left center.
  • Mark Grunberg followed with a RBI double to left center and Craig Alleyne drove in two runs with a pinch-hit double to left center.
  • With two outs, Masters singled off the glove of the pitcher to score the fifth run of the inning.
  • Wade Strain (5) came in to get the final two outs to earn the save.
  • David Marriggi (1-4) took the loss after giving up seven runs on eight hits over six innings or work.
