Tigers Open Home Stand With Loss to GW

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University baseball team opened its home stand with a 9-3 loss to George Washington Tuesday afternoon at Schuerholz Park.

Key Plays
  • Both teams were able to get base runners, but it was GW who was able to capitalize with runners on base. The Colonials were 8-for-17 with runners on, while the Tigers went just 2-for-15.
 
How it Happened
  • The Colonials jumped to the early lead as they plated three runs in the fourth inning. Robbie Metz delivered the big blow with a two-run double.
  • GW extended its lead with two more runs in the fifth.
  • The Tigers got their offense going in the home-half of the fifth as Andrew Cassard singled to right field and went to third when Charlie Watters' sacrifice bunt was misplayed at first.
  • A wild pitch scored Cassard before Watters scored on a groundout from Mark Grunberg.
  • Back-to-back walks to Richie Palacios and Billy Lennox put two guys on, and Colin Gimblet came through with a run-scoring single up the middle.
  • GW would add a single run in the seventh, and then insurance with three runs in the eighth.
  • Matt Watters (0-1) took the loss after allowing five runs on seven hits over three innings.
  • Kevin Hodgson (2-0) allowed three runs, two earned, on four hits over five innings to pick up the victory.

  • Kody Reeser turned in another strong performance as he retired all six hitters he faced in his longest outing of the season.
  • He fanned one in the first inning and came back to strike out two more in the second.
  • Tristan Howeton led the offense with a pair of hits.
  • Towson got four of its seven hits from the bottom three hitters in the lineup.
  • Billy Lennox continued to get on base as he went 1-for-2 with a double and two walks.
