No. 7 Tigers Speed Past Wagner in NCAA First Round

TOWSON, Md. - Behind a record-tying start, the Towson University women's lacrosse team advanced to the second round of the 2018 NCAA Women's Lacrosse Tournament, speeding past visiting Wagner College 16-6 on Friday afternoon.

Senior midfielder Emily Gillingham tied an NCAA Tournament record for fastest goal to start a game after she won the opening draw and scored just nine seconds into the game. That mark tied the mark set by Katie Clemmer of Temple in a 1990 semifinal game against Harvard.

No. 7 Towson (16-4) was led by Kaitlyn Montalbano as she finished with a game-best four goals while Gillingham also logged a hat trick. The latter finished with five points thanks to a pair of assists. Kaitlin Thornton also added a pair of helpers at Johnny Unitas ® Stadium.

Wagner (14-6) was packed by a hat trick from Lauren Ednie. Ally Alliegro had three points on one goal and two assists.
